One-on-One Tutoring

One on one tutoring includes reading and writing strategies, assessments, and intervention. As a reading teacher trained in Orton Gillingham instruction, this program is designed for either the emergent or dyslexic reader. This program will scaffold readers who struggle with inferential skills, comprehension, fluency and understanding story structure. Students will improve their writing as they strengthen grammar and vocabulary skills. They will also be able to connect to the text more effectively as they will be given strategies that address their executive function of working memory.  Assessments are both formal, research based and informal. I will be in communication with the student’s teacher, as well as partnering with the parent to create as much support for your child’s success as possible.

Group Reading and Writing

The students are average independent readers who wish to pursue more challenging texts to read together and/or to increase their writing skills. Exercises may include the following which can be either written independently or orally shared within the group;  reading response, a comparison of text to self or other texts, and one page summarizations. The synergy of the group will have choices of their literary tastes, as well as particular genres of reading and writing. Because it encourages students’ reading and writing skills, there will not be critiques of the work. The reading & writing workshops meet once a week —Little pressure and lots of fun!
