One-on-One Tutoring

One on one tutoring includes reading and writing strategies, assessments, and intervention. As a reading teacher trained in Orton Gillingham instruction, this program is designed for either the emergent or dyslexic reader. This program will scaffold readers who struggle with decoding and inferential skills, comprehension, fluency and understanding story structure. Students will improve their writing as they strengthen grammar and vocabulary skills. They will also connect to the text more effectively as they will be given strategies that address their executive function of working memory.  Assessments are both formal, research based and informal. I will be in communication with the student’s teacher, as well as partnering with the parent to create as much support for your child’s success as possible.

Group Reading and Writing

This program for fluent or near fluent readers, encourages students’ reading, while strengthening writing skills through meaningful discussions with fellow peers. The group members support one another as the teacher leads and facilitates mini-lessons as opportunity presents itself. Together the group explores a variety of reading themes that build critical thinking skills and promotes student success. Text selections are guided by students’ literary interests, coupled with the teacher’s thoughtful guidance to customize the reading to meet the students’ reading and writing skills. The teacher will also scaffold students’ grammar instruction - including sentence structure, vocabulary and synthesis to support student writing of reading reflections and one page summaries. The workshops meet once a week, are low-pressure and fun!
